IE 7 & OE 6

At the end of the year, Internet Explorer 7 for Windows XP SP2 will be
released. However, there will be no Outlook Express 7 for the XP operating
system. At least, that's what Microsoft is saying right now.

Is it possible for XP to use different versions of IE and OE at the
same time? I was just wondering because I've never had that type of
configuration on my PC before. When I used IE 5.5, I used OE 5.5, IE 6.0
with OE 6.0, and so on.

I see no problem with it. From what I heard the numbering system was used
so no one got confused.

Yes. Many people have reported not updating OE in line with IE.
Some seemed to like OE5.5 and stuck with it while installing IE6.

One should *never* use "mixed" versions of IE and OE.

WinXP users cannot use OE5.5 or earlier whatsoever.

In the instance you cite, you can consider IE7 to be IE6 SP2 for all intents
and purposes as OE6 will still be compatible with it just like it's
compatible with IE6 SP1 now.
