FAT32 Flashdrive autorun not working in USB 1.0

I have a WINXP Home Edition portable PC (has all Service Packs and updates)
and a 2GB flashdrive.

If I insert the 2GB flashdrive into any of the portable PC built-in USB 1
ports the Flashdrive is properly recognized, is mounted as G:, and works.
But the autorun.inf file is not recognized.

If I remove the Flashdrive and insert it into one of the USB 2 ports on a
CardBus card, the Flashdrive is again recognized, mounted on G:, and the
"Flashdrive (G:)" windows appears asking what I want to do (which includes
the autorun.inf option).

I took a 256MB flash drive and wrote the same autorun.inf and application to
it. When this is plugged into one of the built-in USB 1 ports the
flashdrive is properly recognized, mounted "Flashdrive (G:)", and the
autorun.inf recognized.

The main difference between the flash drives was that the 256MB was FAT and
the 2GB was FAT32.

I reformatted the 2GB flash drive as FAT and the autorun.inf now works when
the flashdrive is inserted into one of the USB 1 ports.

Can anyone explain why a 2GB flashdrive formatted as FAT32 will not
recognize the autorun.inf file when inserted into a USB 1 port?

Thanks

PS - the 256MB flashdrive autorun.inf is properly recognized in the USB 1
ports when formatted as FAT or FAT32!!!!

Can anyone explain why a 2GB flashdrive formatted as FAT32 will not
recognize the autorun.inf file when inserted into a USB 1 port?

I'm clueless... so here's a WAG:

Maybe it's related to the size of the drive and the inability of your
system to recognize a 2GB flash drive using USB 2?

The 2GB flashdrive works with no problems in USB 1.0 - FAT or FAT32. Can
read/write entire drive.

Can anyone explain why a 2GB flashdrive formatted as FAT32 will not
recognize the autorun.inf file when inserted into a USB 1 port?

Here's something to try: Insert the drive, right-click the drive in "My
Computer", click Properties, AutoPlay tab, and change its default action.
