Familiar shutdown key-strokes now invoke Narrator.

For some years now I've shut my XP PC and laptop down by pressing
WinKey>U>U. This is particualrly useful when the monitor has been
turned off to save power. I don't know what's changed but recently
WinKey>U has begun to bring up the Utility Manager and the Narrator
dialogue boxes. I don't need Utility Manager or Narrator, so I did a
search on how to prevent them from starting up.

In several articles it was suggested to rename both Narrator.exe and
Utilman.exe to '*.old' in the Windows/System32 folder. Having done
this, on pressing the WinKey>U combination, the Utility Manager with
narrator just shows up again and I then find that the original exe
files in Windows/System32 have been restored.

Please can someone tell me how to disable or at least stop Utility
Manager and return the WinKey>U>U combination to it's previous task of
shutting down WinXP?

Press WinKey, release, and then press U > U. That is, don't WinKey and
U together.

How did I miss that subtlety???
And I thought I was getting smarter. :)
Thanks.

Thanks.

Earlier, I was committing the same mistake. That's why I could offer
the solution.
Cheers!
