Failed application to initialize Windows Defender Service 0X80010

On restarting my computer I received a failed application notice to
initialize Windows Defender Service re 0X800106ba? I tried help and support
but did not know how to access the necessary program to deal with the matter.
I understand that I have to uninstall and install Window Defender. I am not
computer literate. Could someone please help me? Do I really need the Windows
Defender Service?
Thank you very much.

I would strongly recommend keeping Windows Defender. If you are running
Windows XP, just go to Microsoft's download site and download the current
Windows Defender and double-click on the downloaded file to install it. No
need to uninstall the current version, I believe.

Here's a direct link:

If you are running an older version of Windows--Windows 2000, you should
uninstall Windows Defender. You can do this by going to Start, Settings,
Control Panel, add or remove programs, scrolling down to Windows Defender,
highlighting that, and choosing Remove. I'd recommend installing some other
antispyware program in place of Windows Defender--perhaps AVG's.
