Hi John

What problems are you having? If you detail them, you may save your self
having to reinstall XP.

Hi Will...too many to mention...from slow to start, icons fading and
flickering! I can sit for at least 15 muinutes before it will let me click on
the start button...I have de-bugged, defraged till im blue in the face.....I
must have a conflict somewhere...I have taken away anything that I dont need
(installed programes like paint shop pro, ect) The P.C is only 8months old
and not used heavely, just a toy.

Hi

The number of checkpoints that System Restore can hold is dependent on the
amount of disk space allocated to it. However, going back too far - more
than a week or so - could cause problems with regard to the Registry. The
Registry could have changed a lot in those few days with programs
installed/uninstalled - and could complelty different going back 3 months.
SR Checkpoints are deleted automatically after 90 days in any case - which
is why you can't go back any futher than July in this particular case.

Take out the original CD's that came with the system and boot off the one
that says 'Windows XP' on it and follow the instructions. If you've only had
it for 8 months then it's still under warranty so you can have your tech
support walk you through the reinstall.

**Warning, make sure you backup anything you want to save before starting
the reinstall.

I would like to restore my computer back to factory as well......before
anyone asks me what the problem is and tries to help me fix it, I have been
trying for a couple of months now..........I know what the problem is, it can
only be fixed by restoring to factory settings....that said......there is a
way to do it WITHOUT a cd (as I never received one). I know this because I
have done it once before, unfortunately it was about a year ago and I have
the memory of an alzheimers patient. Someone out here MUST know how to do it
without cd, as this is where I got the information last time. Thanks

Hi Teresa ... Nepatsfan is correct in how you can go about doing such (
factory setting ) You should after its been set back to factory setting make
a copy of your operating system ( burn it on a disk ) Reason as to why I say
this because if your hard drive ever was to die on you , So goes your
operating system but , If you make a copy of your operating system before
something like that was to happen , You can always use it in a case of a
emergency ...

I do know that with my Dell/Windows xp home edition...to do a complete
factory restore you remove all printers, scanners, etc shutdown and
restart...at the dell screen you hold downt he control button and press F11
and release at the same time and then the restore windows screen shows up,
then you click restore, confirm and finish. One time it didn't work for me
and I couldn't do anything...not even boot up but then I worked that out so
now whenever I get paranoid and need to restore thats how I do it
