I use an F11 shortcut key to open IE with it set to a blank home page. I
would like it to open with the cursor in the Address field, ready to start
typing an address, rather than having to move the cursor there with the
mouse or hit the tab key. In other words I am looking for one less key
stroke. Any way to do this?

Are you using windows? I ask because I set up the address bar right on my
task bar - set to about:blank so I can either just click there & hit enter
to open the browser or I can type in the destination right from the desktop
(or any program for that matter). It is nicer to have easy access.

You can type addresses in the Run dialog and it will open IE and go to the
address for you. The shortcut for the Run dialog box is the Windows key +
"r". That seems as fast as what you describe you want plus you get
autocomplete wich might save you keystrokes in typing the address as well.

try hitting the tab key once IE opens up. The address bar should be the
first tab stop since it's a blank page. This should take you right there.

That's very interesting. I never noticed the Address option for the task
bar. Unfortunately it uses valuable space that I need for seeing the small
boxes for the dozen apps and files I have open.

Unfortunately entering the website name in the Run dialog doesn't allow me
to use the control key when I enter the website name. I have gotten very
used to this (the control key) overlooked functionality that allows you to
not have to enter www. and .com. [I'm always amazed at how many people
don't realize you don't have to type www and com.]

yes. I'm aware of that. I was trying to skip that one very minor key
stroke. I'm wondering if there is a command line switch that I can put in
the IE shortcut that will avoid having to do this? -- I realize that hitting
the tab key is pretty easy but if I didn't have to because there is a switch
that can be set why not use it.

ABOUT:BLANK is spyware !!.. Why on earth would you set your home page to
this. This is a really difficult thing to remove !!

It also a blank page. So it's probably not spywear but setting IE to open with a blank page. Not everyone is stupid and gets infected.
