Exporting messages from Windows Mail to OE6

My copy of Vista RC1 expires in 5 days, and I cannot afford to buy Vista, so
have to revert to XP.

I therefore want to migrate my emails to OE6. All my emails, however, are
in Windows Mail format.

If I try to export them, the only options are Windows Mail or Microsoft
Exchange.

I have, somewhere, a copy of Exchange, so this would be OK as I could then
re-export from Exchange to OE6. However, the export from Windows Mail fails
with "An error occurred while initializing MAPI". I installed another email
client and set it as the default email app., as Microsoft suggests in
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/179637under "Change your MAPI settings" but I
still got the MAPI error.

Furthermore, two thirds of my folders appear to be missing from the Windows
Mail Store folder when viewed in Explorer, even though they all display
inside Windows Mail, so I cannot even drag / copy&paste the .eml files from
these into an OE6 folder.

Can some knowledgeable MVP or other clever person please suggest how I can
avoid losing all these emails once Vista RC1 expires?

Hi John,

Just backup the entire message store. see www.oehelp.com/backup.aspx#wm
Then copy the files to the XP machine and clear their read only attribute.
Then you can do a search for *.eml or go to the individual directories, and
drag the eml files from Explorer overtop an OE message list and drop them
and then they will be reincorporated into OE.
