Importing OE6 mail

I'm trying to import my email in folders from OE6 on an XP pc to Windows Mail
on a new Vista pc. I can navigate to the folder in XP storing the OE6 *.dbx
files, but WinMail does not seem to recognize these as importable. How can I
facilitate this process after three days of trying to find a solution?

Create a folder in Vista.
Move all of the dbx files to the Vista folder.
Point to the Vista folder when importing.

I have the same problem as the original poster and have done as you
suggested, ie. I have copied all my files to a folder on my vista mechine,
but Windows mail still says they are not recognised. Any other ideas ?

Thanks.

I also copied all of the .dbx folders to a new folder on the Vista pc; still
get the message from Windows Mail "No items match your search." I'm at the
same dead end again.

Try pointing to the folder "above" the folder that you told
Vista to use. It has worked for me in the past. Sounds
odd, but it works. It may be a folder like "Outlook Express"
or up one from that, can't remember the good old days...
Anyway, just keep pointing to folders, and "poof", one
will work :)

Got it! Outlook was putting the wrong directory in the path. Very confusing.

Thank you!

5. Then use the Browse button to browse to the directory of dbx files. Make
sure that when you set the directory that what is listed in the path is
correct (NOTE: Vista can put the wrong path in here sometimes, so instead of
c:\mypath it puts c:\mypath\mypath, so check the path to verify that it is
correct, and if it is not correct then fix it by clicking the Browse button a
second time and then leave the selection blank and clicking Okay.).

The link you provided was extremely helpful. However, I could still not
import the dbx files until I went one step further in preparing the dbx
files. After ensuring that the Read Only box for the dbx folders' Properties
was unchecked, I needed to click on the Advanced button. Then I needed to be
certain that none of the following three boxes were checked - "File is ready
for archiving.", "Index this file for faster searching.", and "Compress
contents to save disk space." Once all of those boxes were unchecked, the
transfer from OE6 dbx files to Windows Mail individual messages went
smoothly. Thanks again for your expert advice.

For me, I was able to use the Import to bring in my .dbx content after I
copied the entire folder contents over (not just the .dbx files). Once I did
that, the import worked the way I expected it to.

Dave, we appreciate any help you may give to people but please, when you
respond to a post, ensure that you have the previous part of the thread in
the reply. You are using the web interface to a newsgroup and unless you
do, we, using a true newsreader like OE, Vista Mail, etc. don't know what
you are responding to.
