Explorer will not load

I have Bellsouth and when I connect the homepage will not load. It reads page cannot be displayed, check settings. I ran AdWare and removed what little I had on there. I did recently update through Microsoft. Could that be the problem. Also, any page I try to open, I get the same thing. I also uncheck third party extensions, but it keeps having a check mark next to it after I restart the computer. If anyone can help, Thanks

When you uncheck the third party extension do you press the apply button, or
the OK button?

It may be a HOSTS file problem.
Look also for a file named HOSTS (no extension, could be hidden) rename it
OLDHOSTS.

If you did not create the file, then you may have parasites, or you are
using a web accelerator program that would be causing this problem.

Get AdAware and SpyBot and run them both. Keep them up to date.
