Explorer.exe freaks out!

I

Ivan Debono

Hi all,

I have WinXP Home SP2. After some hours running the PC, the explorer.exe
task shoots up to 98%-99% CPU usage and remains there. I've run Norton AV
many times and it found nothing.

What else can it be?

Thanks,
Ivan

After hours of use it would seem like a heat-related hardware problem, but
open event viewer for specific details.

Did that but found nothing strange. No entries related to explorer.exe.

Should I do a system restore?

No first you should trouble shoot in two areas:

1. It does sound like a heat related problem as Andrew mentioned, check
out the hardware.

2. Check for Virus and adware infestation.

What hardware should I check?
