Explorer.exe application error

When I start up my computer, I get a window that comes up over and over every
couple of seconds:

Program Error Explorer.exe has generated errors and will be closed down etc

This occurs maybe 5 or 6 times in repetition and then I get a different
window to come up that reads reads:

The instruction at "0x77fcdf2a" referenced memory at "0x000ef410". The
memory could not be "read" Click OK to terminate program. (the locations are
often different but the message is the same.

I have repaired Win 2000 from a boot several times to no effect, and I have
reloaded Explorer 6 and repaired Explorer 6 from a run prompt as an earlier
post suggested. Nothing has helped. I cannot run the system at all and have
no idea what to do next.

Explorer.exe is "windows". Internet Explorer is iexplore.exe. Thus, your
problem has nothing to do with IE.

Go into the event viewer [ control panel > admin tools > event viewer ].
Look at the application, security & system logs. Right click on errors,
left click "properties". Report the eventID and pertinent information in the
details area.

Scan for viri.

Scan for spyware using spybot search & destroy ver 1.3 & ad-aware se
personal [ www.lavasoftusa.com ]. You can read tutorials at
www.bleepingcomputer.com .
