explorer.exe application error 0xc0000142

hi there.
i've been having trouble booting up my laptop. While I'm able to enter my
log in & password, when hitting enter I'm now getting an error message that
says:
"Explorer.exe application error. Application failed to initialize properly
(0xc0000142). Hit enter ".
After hitting enter, the computer basically sits dormant, an occassional LED
flicker and fan whir the only sign of life. It's not even responding to
Ctrl-Esc.
Any suggestions?
Help appreciated.

Could you give a list of what hardware (and windows version) you have in
your PC?

On the hardware side, it could be that your power supply is not up to the
job and
Windows is having a random tantrum (technical phrase) as a result.

On the software side of things, I don't suppose you're running McAfee are
you?
That can cause this particular error. You could try F8 at boot and start in
safe mode,
then uninstall it.

Another possibility, if you are running Internet Security and Acceleration
Server,
check that program files\Microsoft ISA Server\Clients folder exists and that
Administrators, System. Have full control to the folder.

I'm having a similar start up problem, but all i get when it's all done
working is a blank destop (except for wallpaper). ctrl+alt+delete still
works though. Basically my particular explorer.exe application error
0xc0000142 problem started only after scanning for and removing spyware
(i used aol spyware remover, spysweeper, spybot search and destroy,
yahoo's anti-spy program, and ad-aware to fix the culprits) that
infected my computer last night. I'm thinking it's something i
inadvertently deleted.

I do not have McAfee, however.

PultonianEmpire - I'm having the same problem you described below. How did
you resolve it?
