Since yesterday I have not been able to close down my
computer, except by pulling the plug. Clicking Restart,
Standbye or Closedown has no effect. AOL Computer Check
says the machine is in good health.

Open Help and Support and search using the term 'shutdown troubleshooter'
(without the quotes.)

"AOL Computer check says machine is in good health"

ROFLMAO - any computer that has AOL installed on it is definitely not "in
good health"

One thing you may wanna try... Is to press ALT+CNTRL+DEL
and then, after dialog box appears. When you see the
Shutdown tab, choose restart. I would also, Try scandisk,
and defrag (defualt windows xp tools) if you have the
Ultilites Norton. then do Norton Disk Doctor, and Speed
Disk. and then reboot again. If the problem continues..
The re-apply the SP1A

Thanks,
