Excel Selects Multiple Cells

When I try to use Excel 2007 lookups, Excel starts selecting multiple cells
at one time. Very frustrating. Other sources have indicated that switching
to full screen mode is a workaround, and that does work, but I'm wondering if
there is a fix. I'm running Office 2007 with SP1 on Windows XP Pro. Thanks.
