multiple cells are selected even though I click on only one

Immediately after I inserted some rows into an existing spreadsheet Excel
starts selecting multiple cells even though I click on only one. Sometimes
three cells below the cell I clicked on are selected, sometimes four;
sometimes three or four cells to the left or right. Is this an Excel problem
or does it sound like a Windows OS or device driver problem?

I had that problem too, and someone pointed out that if you change your zoom
level, it often corrects the problem.

I did a little experimenting, and discovered that at 115% and 130% I have
the problem, but not at 100% or 145%.
