Excel glitch: I click on one cell and many more are selected

I run Office Standard 2007 under Windows Vista and am experiencing a very
annoying problem: When I try to select only one cell or one row in my
spreadsheet and Excel selects multiple cells or multiple rows instead. Has
anyone found a solution to fixing this glitch???
Thank you so much for helping,

I am having this same problem and the Extended Selection feature (F8) is not
on. If anyone knows if there is an option to change in preferences or if
this is a glitch, please let me know.
Thanks

I have been having the same exact problem, and I agree the Extended Selection
(F8) is not on... I got it to stop when I zoomed in and then back out
because I noticed it didn't do it on larger area cells. To zoom easily, I
hold down the ctl and use the mouse wheel.
