.. My computer freezes every once in a while, often while scaning.

Event ID: 7000
Source: Service Control Manager

Description: The REGSpy /or FILESpy/ service failed to strat due to the
following error: The system cannot find the file specified.

I have read articles about this issue, but haven't figured out how to fix
it. I am using Windows Defender beta2 and Bit Defender 9 plus pro and I think
these are the services from that program. I also haven't found the info I
need on their web page.

Thanks for any suggestions!

I do not believe that Windows Defender beta2 and Bit Defender 9 plus pro
have anything to do with REGSpy or FILESpy service.

Open Services and look for REGSpy and/or FILESpy services.

Start | Run | Type: services.msc | Click OK |

If you locate them, double click and look at Path to executable to see what
the .exe is/are.

These may be of interest.

I haven't seen those services even before I posted this. I just said that
event viewer showed me these errors. I 'googled' and found out on some forums
that this service is somehow connected with bitdefender but I haven't figured
out why this problem persists even though they say that this was the problem
only with the earlier version of that program.

I found out that I had a similar problem, although Google said that this
sockspy.dll is related to BitDefender, I looked under hidden devices in
non-plug play drivers and these two (FILESpy and REGSpy) are listed with a
yellow exclamation mark, so I suppose I can uninstall them. But I would like
you to confirm that.

I thank you anyway.

Do you have BitDefender?

If you have sockspy.dll...

Right click sockspy.dll | Properties | Version tab

There should be a description on both General and Version tabs.

This info is part of the file and not all files have real good info.
Especially if it is spyware or a virus. Or whoever put it together was lazy
or secretive.

Version tab.

Click a category on the left to display the information on the right.

Other version information
Item Name:
Company
File Version
Internal Name
Language
Original File Name
Product Name
Product Version

Sometimes, if someone was really industrious, there is info under the
Summary tab also.

? I already said that I'm using BitDefender. Right click shows no info on
this file (summary empty, opens with: unknown aplication).
