Errors reinstalling XP

Am trying to do a clean install Window xp with the reinstallation disc that
came w/ my Dell.


I can get through the initial steps but run into trouble with copying the
files. I get a message that says: Setup cannot copy file: followed by a file
name.
My options are to Retry, which just brings me back to the same error message
or ESC which skips the file. After all files have loaded or been skipped
(there are usually 10-15, with different file extensions every time) I get a
blue screen that says
application has failed to start because winsrv was not found. Reinstalling
may help (it doesn't) Every time I try to do this, it's different files that
it cannot load. This happens w/ quick format and w/ the longer format.
The original installation disk has service pack 1. I also have one w/
service pack 2. This happens w/ both of them.

It is very likely that the reinstallation disk is damaged. I would ask Dell
for a new one.
