This is the Windows driver file for Firewire. If it is corrupted, then
so is the version of it in the recovery cd. Search the restore cd and
other cd's that came with the computer for another copy of this file.
It might appear as ochi1394.sy_, in which case fhe file will have to be
expanded. Or obtain a copy of the file that is specific for the version
of Windows XP that is installed and copy it to the \system32\drivers
folder.

Did you use the manufacturer's Recovery CD and why did you restore the
system? Any existing problems (eg. defective drive) prior to that action?

Provided that you can access Windows, install this optional update in
order to replace the "OHCI1394.SYS" file:

Tnanks for a quick reply. However, I do have the original recovery cd and I
also made a copy of the original cd when I received my new computer several
years ago. I attempt to open the cd to try and copy the corrupted file but it
was unable to read either cd. I was able to find the file on another Windows
XP computer. Also I have never copied and replace a corrupted file before in
DOS and the computer does not have a floppy drive. Please advise. Thanks

If neither CD can be read, then there is a problem with the CD drive.
Or is there just a single file instead of a folder containing all of
the Windows XP installation files? This is the problem with not having
the full Windows installation cdrom...but this is not really your fault,
just the OEM being "minimalist".

Another solution is the one proposed by Detlev, in this thread. The
Microsoft version of ohci1394.sys file is packed into the file that
can be downloaded through Knowledge Base 904412. Does the computer
boot without Firewire being active? If so, then get that file...it is
self-extracting and will probably install the corrupted file.

Thanks for your reply. The cd-rom drive can read other cd's but not the two
restore cd's the original nor the copy that was made from the orginal. Is it
possible for me to use the file from another computer that is running windows
XP SP2?

Thanks Paul

I also have another question regarding this issue. when u said copy the
"ohci1394.sys" are u saying once windows loads up then copy the file into the
\system32\drivers folder. If so, that is not possible because I can't get
into windows at all. I have already lost everything and I just want to
re-format the HDD. Just get a clear understanding.
