Error message to end all error messages!

This is apparently stumping everyone....I seem to always get an error
message when installing updates from Microsoft's Windows Update... it
pops up a message for various hardware items... Keyboard, Mouse, HdC,
Volume, etc.

The message is basically a variation of the following:

Window Title: Device Installer Error

Windows could not load the installer for Keyboard. Contact your
hardware vendor for assistance.

Anyone have any clues? I have to click ok about 14 times to install
an update and it's getting annoying!

Thanks!

This may be a corrupt HAL file, which is the hardware
abstraction layer, a very ctrical file. Try running the
system file checker tool, click start, run, then type
in; " sfc /scannow " with that space after the sfc, and
you need the XP CD.
