XP problem... I've stumped the best... really need help!

I've posted this before, but no one has been able to give me an
answer. Neither has the techs at our company. Could REALLY use some
help!

Using Windows XP Pro, I seem to always get an error message when
installing updates from Microsoft's Windows Update... it pops up a
message for various hardware items... Keyboard, Mouse, HdC, Volume,
etc.

The message is basically a variation of the following:

Window Title: Device Installer Error

Windows could not load the installer for Keyboard. Contact your
hardware vendor for assistance.

Anyone have any clues? I have to click ok about 14 times to install
an update and it's getting annoying!

Thanks!

Does this happen with any Hotfix listed on Windows Update or just with
Device Driver updates? At what point does the error display? Have you looked
at the following website?

This message pops up whenever I add new hardware or install any of the
hotfixes from Windows Update.

I have looked on the Windows Update troubleshooting site, but there is
nothing even remotely resembling this problem.

Any suggestions?

I was having the same problem. I had moved my
C:\WINDOWS\system32\sfcfiles.dll so that XP would allow me to delete
and wouldn't recreate the MSN Gaming Zone, xerox, and other "required
directories" in Program Files. After this change, I starting having
the above behavior. Putting the sfcfiles.dll back made it go away.

Have you done something similar? Is your sfcfiles.dll corrupt?
