Error message every time I shut down an Internet Explorer window

Every time I shut down a window I get the message "Internet Explorer has
encountered a problem and needs to shut down. Sorry for the inconvenience."
I am getting really frustrated because I can't figure out why it keeps doing
this. Any ideas?

May be a malware infection.

So How Did I Get Infected Anyway?
For quite a few people it's by installing Messenger Plus, whose default
install is loaded with malware. See also:

Don't ever do a "default" install of anything. Always choose Custom and see
what else is being carried along.
