hi,
I have widows xp installed in my new system and it was working good.
Since there are lot of unused space (unpartitioned space) i tried
installing ubuntu (linux) but i am not able to install, because i am
newbie in linux. Now when i try to boot my system i am getting the
following (in)famous error in the console screen.

"ERROR LOADING OPERATING SYSTEM"

Is there any work around for the above stated problem.

If you have a floppy drive or can boot from a flash drive you can
download a Win98SE
boot disk with fdisk on it. If that goes well then set the Bios to
boot from the floppy
or flash drive first. Then at the prompt type: fdisk /mbr hit Enter
and remove floppy
or flash and restart.

Does it matter? that's nothing to do with this problem!

When I got my ubuntu disk some time back , it had on the protective
envelope instructions about installing , one of which said to be
careful because the installation could wipe out the original OS .

It also says that several times during the install process, before it
actually installs, my point therefore, is that it doesn't matter in what
manner the OS was acquired...
