Error Deleting Key

I am having problems getting Norton360 installed and running properly. I am
getting "This operation has been canceled due to restrictions in effect on
this computer. Please contact your system administrator." error during
installation and when I attempt to open N360 (after installation). N360 will
not open but it appears that some components are operating.

I had to attempt to remove Symantec Client Security manually (per
manufacturers written instructions) which involved manuallly editing the
registry. Some of the registry keys (associated with Client Security) will
not delete and I get the "Error Deleting Key" window with no additional
information.

I am operation Windows XP Pro /w SP2 as an administrator and have tried
changing permissions for the registry key in question. (I question if the
system is actually allowing me to change permissions.) Any ideas?

Try this first:
http://service1.symantec.com/Suppor...=en&ct=us&pid=1999051911110813&pkb=sharedtech

If the above fails:

Brian,
I had already tried your second solution (Norton Removal Tool) and
re-installation, same problem persisted.

Your first solution, Liveupdate, would require me to open N360 to complete.
I explained in my original post that N360 was not opening.

I am really having two related problems. The first is the "operation
canceled due to restrictions . . ." which I get while attempting to open &/or
install N360. The second is the "error deleting key" which I get when
attempting to delete old Symantec registry keys (per their written
instructions).

Both error messages lead me to consider registry &/or permission problems.

Downloading and running the LiveUpdate utility Does Not require any Symantec/Norton
application to be running. You d/l it to the desktop and execute it from there by
double clicking on it. Once it has finished unpacking/installing you will be
required to reboot so it can finish the task. When rebooted to the desktop if all
went well you should be able to run the application/s.

The first one requires you to boot up to the Adminstrators account that has full
permission.

or weed through thes:
http://support.microsoft.com/search...L&mdt=0&res=20&ast=1&ast=2&ast=3&mode=a&adv=1

The second one, Right click on the entry and click on Permissions... to set the
rights to remove the entry. Make sure you know what you're removing and export any
key/hive so they can be merged back if something goes bad.

Yes - I thought about that posibility after posting. I have other
commitments, it may take me a day or two to try this solution but I will post
the results.

Tx again
