Error Deleting File or Folder

I

Ian Brown

Please help.

I am having problems deleting a file. It's called "Monopoly3-dm.exe", which
a download manager for the game Monopoly.

I've downloaded the game and wish to delete this file but Windows XP Pro
throws up the "Error Deleting File or Folder" dialogue box. In the box it
states "Cannot delete Monopoly3-dm: It is being used by another person or
program" "Close any programs that might be using the file and try again"

I really don't know what program could be using this file. There are no
other profiles/users, running programs and I've looked through the running
processes but nothing appears out of place there. I've tried rebooting and
then trying to delete the file with no luck, I've also tried rebooting into
safe mode and deleteing the file under Administrators permissions, still,
with no luck.

This file just cannot be deleted. I hate having files that have no apparent
purpose but linger on your system. You never know what they're up to.

Can you help?

Thank you

Ian.

Hi Ian,

Please help.

I am having problems deleting a file. It's called "Monopoly3-dm.exe", which

[...]

If you have Nero, try deleting through the Nero browser.

Or, open a command prompt (Start > Run > cmd) navigate to the folder,
using the cd command (cd folder, cd..)
Open the Task Manager (Ctrl + Alt + Del) and kill explorer.exe from
it.

Now type in the command prompt:
del "Monopoly3-dm.exe"

Open a new task in Task Manager --> explorer.exe

Good luck

The Nero option worked a treat. Thanks.

Strange why I couldn't delete it using any Windows XP Pro built in file
utilities.

I'll have to remember this trick just in case it happens again in the
future.

Thanks again.

Ian.

Norton systemworks 2004 professional help me remove this irritating
icon and useless piece of crap from my computer. I tried everything the
others said without any luck. I decided to just try my Norton system
work and it worked.....I went into the program and selected Norton
cleansweep then clicked on the tab cleanup then uninstall wizard and
followed the instructions and also then selected the program to
uninstall and it was on my desktop so I found it then followed the info
on uninstall then rebooted and IT WAS GONE....Thank GOD for Norton
systemwork. If you don't have it I highly recommend you all to get this
software. You can go to symantec website and download free trials but
I'm not too sure about this version I have but if they have systemworks
to download I'm sure it will have this option on whatever year they have
for you to use for 30 days. Heck it's worth it just to get rid of this
nasty bugger.

just can't seem to shake no matter how hard you try even if it doesn't
give you any errors...Good Luck to everyone and I hope this info was of
some help.
