john barr-hall

This error has just started on my laptop after 3 months of prefect operation.
I've tried to restore to a point on known stability but the issue has
followed me.
Does anybody know a resolution to this issue.

John.

You don't say what version of Outlook you're using or even what type of mail
account, but try this;

account settings, highlight the email account, and press repair above it

Kathleen, thanks foir this, I tried it and a message back saying:
A test e-mail message could not be sent. You might need to adjust your
account settings to send e-mail messages

I'm on Vista 64, Outlook 2007, all current on updates, AVG AV, all current
on update on this as well.

The strange thing is it was working whilst on holiday on Wednesday 2nd
September, started using it again on Monday 7th September, got this error.

I followed a post from a few month ago which suggest turning of
authentication and the error channged to 0x800ccc78.

Thanks for the help. John.

Try changing your SMTP port to 587.

To change the outgoing mail port to 587 in Outlook:

1. Open Outlook.
2. Click the Tools menu, then click E-mail Accounts.
3. Click the View or change existing e-mail accounts option, then click the
Next button.
4. Click your e-mail account, then click the Change button.
5. Click the More Settings button.
6. Click the Advanced tab.
7. In the Outgoing Mail (SMTP) box type 587.
8. Click the OK button.
9. Click the Next button.
10. Click the Finish button.

The above are instructions for Outlook 2003 but should be similar to 2007.

Sometimes the solution depends upon your (so far unnamed) email service
provider. Care to tell us who you might be using for email service?

I tried changing the port to 587, but i now get:

(0x800CCC78) : 'Cannot send the message. Verfiy the e-mail address in your
account properties. The server responded: 550 5.0.0. relected - zen.dnsbl'

Thanks, John.

What type of mail account is this? POP3? Other? Are you using the Hotmail
Connector?

You might need to select, "My server requires authentication", and include
your username and password.

I suddenly had the same issue ... couldn't send outgoing mail.
I'm on Vista, Microsoft Outlook 2007 with charter.
I resolved mine by clicking on Tools, Account Settings, e-mail tab and then
Repair. The first run returned an error message that it couldn't find an
encrypted server, but tried automatically unencrypted and resolved the issue
.... as of now.
Hope yours is as simple as mine!

I don't have any problems. As complex as my configurations are, they do work
just fine (except when ATTIS throws an occasional fit, and I have to change
which, of a plethora, of their message submission servers, I use).

When I try to access that website, I'm getting a DNS failure. Can you verify
that website is correct?

Have you verified your settings against what they recommend? I see they
offer POP3/IMAP4 accounts. Maybe they've changed something at their end?

I've spoken to them twice now, and they assure me nothing has changed.

I can send mail, if I logon to my account in amenworld.

one other thing, if you google the error, it suggests that my registry might
have become corrupted. Should i consider a rebuild of my whole machine?

Again mamy many thanks for helping me.

John.

Kathleen, should i download this and run it?

Will this cure my issue?

Thanks, again, John.
