Error 0x80070663

I've reinstalled Windows Defender. When I try to update I get error message
"Windows Defender was unable to complete the update 0x80070663. The patch
package could not be opened....."
I've tried with and without my firewall on. I've tried to use WIndows
update - both custom and express. I've tried to download from the help menu
on Defender. Any solutions? I'm running XP Pro, and a version of Defender
downloaded today (4-25)Thanks in advance

Just to add additional information. This is a home PC, I am the admin., it's
not networrked. All Microsoft updates have been completed and installed
successfully except the update to Defender. Running McAfee anti-virus, zone
alarm firewall.

Just out of interest. What version of Windows Installer are you using?

This is the latest:

Windows Installer 3.1 v2 (3.1.4000.2435) is available
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/893803

Beªr in mind there is no "single" solution that fits everybody's prºblems.
