Error 0x80070643 when updating

I installed Win Defender Beta2 as an update to MS Antispyware. The install
went fine, but when I click on Update , the tray icon displays:

Windows Defender was unable to complete the update:
0x80070643. Fatal error during installation.

I also get two duplicate errors in the App Log, which make no sense:

Product: Windows Defender Signatures -- Error 1606.Could not access network
location %USERPROFILE%\My Documents\My Pictures\.

My "My Documents" is redirected out of %USERPROFILE%, but I continue to get
the error even after creating %USERPROFILE%\My Documents\My Pictures.

Uninstalls, restarts and reinstalls don't solve this.

Any ideas? Thanks.

No ideas but you are not alone - I have the same issue and like you tried
creating a %userprofile%\My Documents\My Pictures (as mine is redirected
also) and de/re-install but no change in symptoms.
