I am using word 2003 and am trying to view/ print a document with equations
in it. I am getting the problem that the equations appear as funny
symbols!?! When I double click on the equations (ie open equation editor)
they appear fine however they go back to their original state when I click
outside them or try to print!

Please help!!

You may be seeing a field code. If you press Alt+F9, does the equation
appear?

And presumably what you're seeing is not an empty box (picture placeholder)?

Lloyd, please make another post to the newsgroup and tell us what
version of Word you're using. We need more information that just
"Word 2002" or "Word 2003". Open up Word, and in the Help menu,
click on "About Microsoft Office Word" or "About Microsoft Word"
and give us the version number from that screen. For example,
mine says "Word 2003 (11.6359.6360) SP1".
We also need to know the version of Windows. If you're using
Windows XP, let us know whether or not you've installed SP-2.

Well the only thing that could be causing your problem is an
issue with a font. You've installed the MathType fonts, but it's
possible that there is more than one copy of some of your fonts,
and this could be causing the problem. Even if you have ten
different copies of a font (Arial, for example) when you look at
your listing of fonts (Control Panel > Fonts), it will only show
one. Please bear with me and let's try to delete the duplicates:

1. Go to Control Panel > Fonts to show your font list.

2. Click on MT Extra (True Type). While holding down the Ctrl key
on the keyboard, click on Symbol (True Type). Note that you may
also see fonts with the same name that don't specify True Type.
If you see these, they'll have an image of a lowercase "a" in the
icon. The fonts you want to select are the ones that show either
a "TT" or an italic "o" in the icon.

3. Press Delete.

4. Close the font listing and re-open it. For some reason, if you
have multiple copies of a font and you delete one, it won't show
another copy as being present until you close & re-open the list.
Refreshing the list won't do it.

5. If you still have copies of the True Type versions of either
MT Extra or Symbol, repeat the above steps until the listing
doesn't show any.

6. Re-install the MathType fonts. The MathType font set doesn't
include Symbol, so I'm sending that to you privately.

Let me know if this solves the problem.

This was such a great tip. I had the same problem and I could solve it by
simply deleting the MT Extra font. You really helped me. Thank you!
