Epson printer install

Running windows xp, home edition, dell 240 computer. Trying to install epson
CX3810 via usb. Its a printer/scanner and the scanner works fine but the
printer is ??? As I go thru the install procedure at the add printer window,
when it's time to select the port on the drop down menu, nothing comes up.
There aren't any ports listed to select from.

usb multifunction printers are a pain to install.. unplug the usb
cable remove all traces of the epsom software and drivers, reboot,
install all the software *then* plug in the printer, if it doesnt
prompt you to plug it in during the install then reboot after
installing the software and plug in before windows loads..

possibly.. for a last resort effort read the manual and follow the
install instructions.. can you connected it via ethernet rather than
usb?
