Endless Preparing to Hibernate

Derek Harvey

XP Professional, on two different systems, sometimes gets to 'Preparing to
Hibernate' but never gets any further and the machine has to be switched
off.
What are the possible reasons for this hang-up? How can I find out what is
causing this problem? Could it be anything to do with the systems being
networked with a third system (XP Home and this does not arise on that
system).

Occasionally the system may, after a long time, e.g., some hours, close down
and appear to have hibernated but in these cases the resume is nearly always
unsuccessful and a restart is needed.

How large is your C drive / partition and how much free space is there?

How much RAM?

Have you checked for anything running in the background? Any virus programs
scanning? Anything scheduled to run?
If none of the above, configure your system by not loading one program at a
time till you find the offender. (start-- run--
msconfig---startup tab--remove x's)
