Endless boot cycle after insalling SP2

I

It's Only me

I downloaded and installed SP2. After the setup, my computer goes into an
endless boot cycle. The only way to get the computer started is in safe
mode. the following is from event viewer.

Any suggestions welcome. At the moment, I have uninstalled SP2.

Thanks.

This is what event viewer says. I can only get in in safe mode.

By chance do you have an AMD Opetron processor or an AMD-64 ?

btw, the shutdown article at Aumha is excellent.

p.s. This should shed a little light on Event ID 7026 with Service Control manager. This link is to MS Technet site.

Your system had been failing to load a whole bunch of drivers ---- many of which were network protocols.

Is this pc a stand-alone, or do you have a network ? a desktop pc, or notebook? brand name?
Do you now (or before) have a 3rd-party software firewall ? I'm trying to see if you had 1 firewall already & if SP2 activated its Windows Firewall.
Another possibility on Event ID 7026 (long shot) is that somehow it got configured for a serial mouse, but you have a PS2 mouse.
While XP SP2 was available (and even now) I'd go to Control Panel > Devices & do a review.

Thankyou for the replies and Kaylene also. The article Kaylene mentioned is
not applicable to my system. I do not have mpegport.sys on my system. In
answer to Maurice's question, this is a standalone, desktop pc. I use
Zonealarm Pro as my firewall. I cannot tell which version of the AMD chip I
have. The information I get from a chip finding utility from AMD is:

AMD Duron(tm) Processor
AuthenticAMD
Speed: 1196 MHz
L1 Data Cache: 64kb
L1 Inst Cache: 64kb
L2 Cach: 64 kb
Family.Model,Step: 6.7.1
MMX: YES
Extended MMX: YES
3DNOW!(tm): YES
Extended 3DNOW!(tm): YES

I have a PS2 mouse. All othere peripherals were disconnected prior to the
update.

Thanks again for the informations.

Your AMD Duron should be ok.
Which peripherals did you *disconnect* at SP2 update? and by chance do they use any of those *failing-to-load drivers* ?

You need to experiment to see what may be in your Startup group programs that 'could' possibly cause problem.
You have to do some research (in MS groups & in Google groups) to see what each one of the drivers belongs to.

Use MSCONFIG to minimize all user/add-on startup apps. Does that make a difference?

Problem solved. I disabled reboot on error and when the machine next
started, it told me a file btaudio.sys was trying to use memory that could
not be allocated to it. This file is for my bluetooth dongle audio. I
disabled the file and the boot went ahead as normal. Thankyou all for your
input. Just a little time and patience and some great help from "You Guys"
let me get to the root of the problem.

Once again, Thanks.

I am really so glad this is solved. Good going. And you are welcome. And btw, thank "you" for posting back.
We all learn something this way. Here's what I learned from your post ---- bluetooth audio device .. uses "btaudio driver".

Glad to share what knowledge I gain. Once again, Maurice, Thanks.
