Emptying Temp folders

B

Bill

Since I upgraded to IE6, my Temporary Internet Folder does
not empty when I exit the browser. I have the check mark
on "Empty Temporary Internet Files folder when browser is
closed" in Advanced page of Options but it has never
emptied after several shutdowns & startups. These files
add up fast when not deleted.

Also, how do I delete some of the unwanted options in
the "Startup" tab when I run "msconfig". There are several
items there that I unchecked because I didn't put them
there & don't want to ever use them. These are piling up &
I would like to eliminate them.

I would appreciate any help anyone can give me on these
problems.

Thanks
Bill

You may want to Add/Remove and remove the offending programs and/or open the
program and read the tools or options and de-select the option to run when
Windows is opened.

Right click > Start > Explore and click to C:\Windows\Temp and delete the
hundreds of temp files that build up there.

Thanks for the help but unfortunatley many of these are
not in the Add/Remove list & some of those in the startup
list that are unchecked & unused are not to be found so I
can open them. They are either already deleted but still
on this list or I can't associate the command with the
file to identify it. I would just like to get the command
out of the Start up list to avoid future confusion.

Thanks

RUN cleanmgr (sometimes it stalls at compressed folders, which is
fixable).

Or empty TIFS via control panel \ internet options \ general tab
Delete files button - also delete offline content.

Kelly has a fix at line 148, right, that will enable you to clear
disabled items from the startup list.
