Temp files not deleting

I have checked the option "Empty Temporary Internet files
folder when browser is closed" in the Advanced options
section but they never delete. I have unchecked it &
rechecked it trying to reset things but the files always
remain after shutdown. When I used IE 5, the shutdown
always took a little longer but the files were always
deleted. Is there something else that needs to be done to
get the files deleted during shutdown? The amount of files
staying on the computer becomes huge & I have to
occasionally delete them manually.

I would appreciate any help anyone can give me on this.
