emailaccount disappeared

all my emails disappeared and I am being prompet to configure my account
again. I have been using this account on this computer for 2 years. How can I
retrievemy email or are they gone forever?! My contacts are still there.

See here for background on how the messages are stored:
www.oehelp.com/backup.aspx I don't know what could have happened but you
can go to the message store in Explorer and look to see if the messages (eml
files) are still there. You can also try searching for *.eml as that is how
the individual messages are stored.

All mail folders are empty, or just your Inbox?
For each mail folder, make sure View, Current View, has "Show All
Messages" selected.
