emails disappearing

Since Saturday my emails that I have read and kept in my inbox have
disappeared. In fact anything more than 3 days old is gone also. They are
not in the deleted folder either. Help.

Most of the time its due to antivirus software. See point 3 here:
www.oehelp.com/OETips.aspx#3

Also make sure you have View | Current View | Show all messages checked.

I have a similar problem with a slightly differenct twist. I have been
noticing that some emails will appear in my inbox then disappear within
seconds. This has been happening for awhile, but today, I noticed something.
A folder appears appended to my "deleted items" entitled "anti-spam". This
stays until the inbox has downloaded all messages then the folder disappeared
(with, I assume the emails that had disappeared). I have checked McAfee anti
spam (which appears as a separate folder under my "inbox". I have also tried
the other fixes that were recommended and while the problem may be fixed for
future emails (I won't know unless it doesn't happen again). My main
question is, how can I recover those emails.

Your problem is with McAfee. It doesn't play well with Windows Mail.
If you insist on using an antivirus program that is not compatible with
Windows Mail, then as a minimum you must disable all interaction the
McAfee program has with Windows Mail.
