lost emails during Windows Mail setup

Dan

Just got a new computer.
In setting up the Windows Mail for two yahoo email accounts, I failed to
check the box saying 'leave a copy of messages on server'

not sure why, but for one account, it brought everything in from the server
(600 plus old emails). FOr the other account, it emptied the server online,
but is only showing me the last week of emails in Windows Mail. I can't find
all the rest. I need those emails back -my old computer crapped out
completely and suddenly, so I've lost all my Contacts. I was going to
recover them all out of my old emails.

Any help for me? Are they hiding on my computer somewhere, or already gone
forever?

You can try View | Current View | Show all messages for each folder to
ensure they are visible. Otherwise you can search the message store for
*.eml and try and find them, but I suspect they aren't on your local
machine.

What part of the old computer broke down? The data on its hard drive
may still be readable by connecting it as an auxiliary drive to your new
computer.

Also, aren't those Contacts also kept on your Yahoo webmail?
