I am experiencing a problem with Vista Windows email. This message is
appearing on messages that have been deleted and put into the deleted message
folder and then I cannot empty them from the deleted message folder.
What is going wrong and how do I get it fixed?????!!!!

I tried the fix where you delete the "WindowsMail.MSMessageStore" - it did
not work at all. Will try this later and see if it has any effect. Thanks.

Just deleting one copy of the file won't work.

So go to
Tools | Options | Advanced | Maintenance | Store Folder to find the message
store location. Then move everything under that Windows Mail directory to
another directory. Then restart WinMail and it will open fresh with nothing
in the database. You can then add your accounts and if they work correctly
then you can use File | Import | Messages and choose WinMail format and
point to the directory to which you moved the files.

Just click this link, read the instructions, download the program and you
are sorted.

Ignore the jargon and try to do things yourself, do not rely on M$ or any
one else.

Best of luck.

No, there is no fix and its likely to happen again, which is why we tell
people just to ignore it. Eventually (no one knows when) a patch will
likely be released. Its best just to let it alone if its not breaking the
functionality of the program anymore than that.

If the number of deleted items is less than 10 everything works ok, I don't
know why yet. There is problably a larger number for which it works, just
don't know what it is, I know it's less than 30

I am experiencing the same problem... cannot delete the "deleted items"
folder. Now nearing the 1K mark, nd after spending 4 hours with a poor
english speaking Pakistani last weekend until my phone battery lost power.

It seems there is a severe problem with Vista in the email department (and
others) that must be addressed and corrected NOW!

I, like some others here, am just about ready to carry this damned thing
back or install XP. This much money spent should be bullet proof.

HOW DO WE FIX THIS PROBLEM?

Hi, Danny/Sandy.

Please visit MVP Steve Cochran's web page:
http://www.oehelp.com/WMUtil/

Even better, download and run the latest beta version of WM's successor,
Windows Live Mail. It is still in public beta and has some "fit and finish"
issues, but its basic functionality is better that WM already, in my
opinion. Note: the name "desktop" still appears some places (in the URL
and in the name of the support
newsgroup(microsoft.public.windows.live.mail.desktop), but was removed from
the name of the program in late May. There's a big difference between WLMd
(last build 8.0.1226) and WLM (build 12.0.1184)! Get it here:

Some have reported that going to Edit | Empty Deleted Items works after
doing it several times. Otherwise the only solution is to wipe out the
message store and start over.

Windows Mail Utility won't get rid of undeletable messages in the Deleted
Items folder. It also won't work for WalMail.

Hi, Steve.

Thanks for the correction. Sorry if I oversold WMUtil. I haven't had to
use it since I switched to WLM (12.0.1184). ;<)

This usually means you need to download and install this fix, with Windows
Mail not running:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/941090

Although it's labelled as for mail stuck in the Outbox, it also works in
other folders. If you don't know whether to use the 32-bit version or
the 64-bit version, try the 32-bit version first, and if it refuses to
install, the 64-bit version also. Certain common antivirus programs,
such as most of those from Nortom or McAfee, tend to cause such
problems, although seldom immediately, so if you have such a
program, remember where to find the fix - you are likely to need it
again. A recent version of Trend's antivirus program also causes
assorted problems in Windows Mail.

Wow, have you looked at the date of that message you are quoting?
It is always best to check the latest fixes first.
