Earthlink's TotalAccess disabled High Speed connection.

I installed Earthlink’s proprietary internet connection program called
“TotalAccess†(not my idea). This is for dial-up connections. After
installation my broadband high speed connection no longer works. The
broadband connection is “enabled†and ipconfig shows the IP address, but all
I get when IE opens is error message that the window could not be displayed.
I went to Earthlink's "chat" help desk and they couldn't seem to grasp the
problem.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

How did you/Did you ever resolve the Earthlink dial-up problem about which
you posted to WinXP General newsgroup on 19 Oct-05?

Does the dial-up connection work? Is the machine physically connected to
the phone line when this occurs?

What are your settings at IE: Tools > Internet Options > Connections >
Dial-up and Virtual Private Network settings > Never dial a connection, Dial
whenever..., etc.?

What ISP is your broadband provider?

That other was a different PC. Yes I have tools/options/conections set to
"Never dial a connection". Yes the phone is physically connect to the phone
line. The LAN line is connected to a router, but it worked fine before the
installation of the TotalAccess, and the other PCs on the router work fine
still. The broadband ISP is our local cable company, CableVision.

Can you successfully access any/all webpages using the dial-up connection?

Does eliminating the router and connecting directing to the cable modem
resolve the problem? Does uninstalling the Earthlink software resolve the
problem?

Are your settings at Tools > Internet Options > Connections > LAN > LAN
Settings the same as the other machines?

EL total access program is unneeded for a dial-up connection. have
you tried uninstalling it to see if that brings back your high-speed
conection? if that works you can create your own manual dial-up
connection using the new connection wizard. i'm on EL dialup and
avoid their TA program like the plague.
