Dynex usb-to-parallel, HP inkjet 2200

Ok, I'm ready to pull my hair out. I got a new laptop for the office and it
has no parallel port, only usb. Unfortunately, I have legacy printers that do
not have usb ports. I got a Dynex usb-to-parallel cable/adapter and connected
it to my hp inkjet 2200. Sometimes it prints fine, other time it gets part of
the document printed and I get "document failed to print" error message and
it stops printing in the middle of the document. I've swapped printers (same
model) and it does the same thing. My laptop is an HP/Compaq nx9600 with
WinXP Pro SP2.

Has anyone been successful using legacy printers with a usb-to-parallel
adapter?

They don't usually work..... USB devices have data hard coded in them which
tell the USB port (and therefore Windows) exactly what they are. Older
legacy devices don't have this data... so the poor operating system has
absolutely no idea what is connecting to it or what it should do with it.

See if you can take the cable back.... and get a newer printer instead.
