DVD RW drive wont write

I installed a new Samsung RW DVD drive with latest firmware dated 2007.
Latest XP updates also on PC.

The drive display in Window Explorer as "DVD-RAM Drive". It can read CD and
DVD disks. When I insert a blank DVD to burn data onto it, the drive
display in WE changes to "CD drive" and the system will not burn data to it.
The driver under properties for the drive shows Microsoft 7/2001 and when
auto searching for update it says thats the latest.

Am I supposed to have a new driver for this DVD RW? Any tips on how to get
the DVD writer working?

thank you

What burning software are you using? XP does not burn dvd's. For that you
need a third party program.

Windows XP cannot natively write to a DVD disc.
You'll need to purchase & install a DVD writing program,
such as: http://www.nero.com/enu/nero8-introduction.html

or

http://www.roxio.com/enu/store/cddvdburning.html
