My CD-RW/DVD-ROM combo drive Wont Read Anything but DVD's.

My CD-RW/DVD-ROM combo drive Wont Read Anything but DVD's. It used to, but
now it wont. I tried troubleshooting it but that didn't work. I tried
uninstalling then reinstalling that didn't work. There are no updates for it
and it says there is nothing wrong. It's a CD-RW/DVD-ROM combo drive
(TSSTcorp CDW/DVD TS-H492A) from Microsoft that came installed in my Compaq
Driver VErsion 5.1.2535.0 YOU GUYS ARE MY LAST HOPE PLEASE HELP????????????

If it will read DVD but not CD, maybe the CD laser is dead (the two types
of disks use different colours of laser). I have seen this a couple of
times.
 
Your drive did *not* come from Microsoft. It's a Samsung. Have you tried
their support pages? Have you updated the firmware?

Swap out the drive with a known working drive. Could be the CD laser has
died.
