Optical drive misidentified by Windows XP

Leave it to me to stumble upon the odd stuff! LOL

Reinstalling XP on a T6212 emachine. Motherboard is MSI MS-7093. I am
not using eMachine recovery software, the original disks were not given
to me, and cannot be purchased. I'm using an old XP SP1 retail install CD.

After the system and software was installed, putting a DVD into the DVD
player would no longer autoplay, even though that was the chosen option
for DVD's in the DVD drives properties. It did work properly after
installing the VLC media playing software during the middle of the
software install.

When the autoplay function stopped working, I discovered the system
properly identified the drive as a DVD R/RW drive, but after inserting a
DVD into the drive, playing it using VLC, the system identified the
drive as a CD drive, not a DVD drive. The drive is Sony DRU-810A,
latest firmware installed.

The drive never has worked quite right since I got it, the drawer does
not always want to open. There is a note on Sony's storage media site
that the drive should be the only drive on the ribbon cable, and set as
master. There is a CD in the system, but only one hard drive, so have
not tried moving the CD to the ribbon cable attached to the hard drive
to see if that would make a difference.

Anyone ever run across anything like this before? I'm still
troubleshooting here, so not looking for suggestions in that area.......
yet! LOL

Solved it! :)

The problem was caused by the free burning software, ImgBurn. Removed
it, and installed a different free program, CDBurnerXP, and no more
problems.

As for the drawer opening, the Sony drive was jumpered for master, the
CD drive was jumpered to cable select. Jumpered the CD drive to slave,
and the Sony drive drawer has not failed to open since.
