DVD R/W Problems

I have a Sony DVD R/W and a Generic CD R/W. I am running XP Home. There are
exclamation marks in front of both items in my device manager. These devices
just stopped working one day. I think someone did something in my registry. I
have no idea how to fix this problem. This is the message that is listed as
the problem in the device status:
Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration
information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. (Code 19)

Please HELP!!!

Boot into Safe Mode, open Device Manager, delete/remove any and all CD/DVD
drives you find, reboot and Windows should re-detect the now new hardware
and install the drivers.

But first, perform a system restore to a time before your registry was poked
around with.
