dvd drives not available in windows after reinstalling windows xp

hi,

I hope you can help me. I had a problem with windows xp constantly crashing
so I reinstalled windows xp to solve it. Everthing seems to be working and I
no longer have any crashes but my dvd drives do not show in "my computer".
When the system boots they are recognised correctly but I can't see them in
windows. Both have power and will eject manually windows just does not see
them. I thought I should be able to reinstall / reactivate them easily or
just add the driver but unfortunatley I don't have the drivers and cannot
find them on the sony website or the web. They are Sony DVD-ROM DDU-1613 and
SONY DVD RW DW-DD22A.

Any ideas please?
thanks

still not resolved - so far I have tried :

I have tried the doug knox fix but that did not work.

I have tried editing the upper and lower filters in the registry but that
did not work.

I have tried unplugging the IDE cables from both drives, restarting,
plugging back in and restarting but that did not work.

I tried disabling both drives in BIOS, restarting, enabling and restarting
but that did not work.

I was advised by my OEM to reinstall Pinnacle and WINDVD which I have done
and this has made two drives appear in my computer but I cannot access them
and they are not the displayed as the correct drives. They show as drives D:
and F: both show as SCSI but the connection is actually IDE. I don't have
the exact details of what each drive displays but I will post them later
today. If i put discs in the drives and then click on either drive it says
please insert disk, if i right click on either drive and select eject nothing
happens. In device manager they show as working and there are no other drives
with yellow exclamations.

I tried unistalling both drives from device manager and then checking for
hardware
updates but the same drives were reinstalled.

I tried changing the path in device manager for the drives but that has not
resolved the problem.

Finally I installed chipset drivers again (Via hyperion 4 in 1) but that has
not made
any difference.

Any other ideas of what I can try?
