I had just completed a cold re-install of Windows XP Professional due to a
computer "crash" and my Sony DVD RW DRU-820A Double Layer CD-DVD
player/writer was working just fine when inputting CD program disks. They
would autorun/start after about 5-10 seconds putting them into the drive.
Right after putting in the CD's for Roxio Easy Media Creator 8 and after
reinstalling the program, my Sony CD/DVD drive would not operate correctly.
I no longer would be able to autorun CD's like before. They would eventually
be recognized (when opening up My Computer, it would not show the program CD
in the drive "picture") and accessed after about a full 10 minutes or more
would pass by after inserting the CD's. This is very frustrating to wait for
the CD's to be recognized after inserting them, and if a program installation
happened to have multiple CD's involved, it would take forever to actually
"load" each CD to progress with the installation process. Note: this
happened to me with my previous Windows XP Professional installation after a
while and loading into my computer hard drive, but I never could pinpoint
what caused it. This time I believe it occurred right after I installed the
Roxio Easy Media Creator 8 program.
Perhaps this may help you ascertain the problem and help me get back the
autorun/start feature for CD's when inserting them into the CD/DVD drive.
This also happened with my old installation of Windows XP Professional when I
had a Memorex CD/DVD single layer drive, but it eventually cratered and it
had to be replaced.
Can I possibly insert my CD for drivers and reinstall the drivers for the
Gigabyte P4 Titan 875P FSB Dual Channel DDR400/AGP8X motherboard which
supports the Intel Pentium 4 Processor? Will that help?
Second thought, if I uninstalled the Roxio Easy Media Creator 8 program, do
you think I would be able to get proper CD start-ups in my CD/DVD drive? If
that did work, I probably wouldn't reinstall the Roxio Easy Media Creator 8
program!!!
Another thing. If I have a CD in the Sony CD/DVD prior to booting, then
after the computer boots, the CD is recognized in the My Computer Window once
I double click the My Computer icon and it then displays the CD name with a
"picture" of the CD in the Sony CD/DVD drive right away. However, once it is
booted with no CD in the drive, when I put in a CD, then it takes FOREVER for
it to be recognized and autorun/start.
Lastly, when I go into the Device Manager, it shows that the Sony drive is
working properly. Do you suppose if I update my driver(s) for it or rollback
my driver(s) for it, would it possibly correct the problem? I'm trying to
think of all my possibilities to the best of my knowledge, so PLEASE help me
if you can. I sure don't want to have to do a cold re-install of my Windows
XP Professional OS! There is too much work and time getting everything back
into my hard drive once it is reformatted and everything is lost. By the
way, when I did reinstall the OS, I first deleted the partition that the
former installation was on, and then I made a NEW partition and then I did
the cold reinstall of the Windows XP Professional OS.
Thank you very much,
