Duplicate Startup Progs - OLD FART IN OZ NEEDS HELP!

P

Pat Garard

G'Day All,

All Programs in the Startup Folder (All Users) attempt to
start TWICE! (All 'user' Startup folders are maintained empty).

The SysInternals Utility "AutoRuns" shows the Startup Folder
listed twice.

MsConfig shows the Programs listed twice; once in location
'Common Startup' and once in 'Startup'.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Hi Pat,

Check your settings here:

Go to Start/Run/Regedit and navigate to this key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersi
on\Explorer\User Shell Folders

and here:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell
Folders

Other than that, uncheck the dups and then run the script on line 148 (right
hand side):

If I haven't addressed the issues on hand in your case, give better details
and good luck in the meantime.

Common Startup should be the Docs and Settings\AllUsers\Startup; plain
Startup the one in Docs and Settings\username\ Each has a logical
pointer to it, used by the system

What I think has happened is that the logical pointer in the username's
registry has got pointed to the All Users folder, hence duplicating it.

Use TweakUI - one of the XP Powertoys from (if you have installed XP
SP1)
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/downloads/powertoys.asp

If you have not installed SP1, the earlier version can be found at
http://download.microsoft.com/download/whistler/Install/2/WXP/EN-US/TweakUiPowertoySetup.exe

Once installed you will find it in Start - All Programs - Powertoys for
Windows XP

Its My Computer - Special Folders, look for Start Menu and make sure it
is pointed to the (empty) User one
