Any item in startup folder loads twice! Help please.

Ok, I'm running xp pro sp1, and any shortcut item that I
place into the startup folder
(C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start
Menu\Programs\Startup\) load twice when xp loads.

Now, I've tried to do what I can to work out the
cause/soltuion to this, but I'm failing thus far.

What I have found out is in msconfig two of any item in
the startup folder will appear in the startup list; one
in "Startup" and the other appears in "Common Startup".
If I disable one of them, when I reboot both items are
missings from the list and the program won't load at all.

This is becoming a major irritation; can anyone help me?
