Problem with Startup Folder

I don't think this is working right...

Whenever I put a program shortcut in my Startup folder, it actually
appears in both my user Startup and "All Users" Startup. As a result,
it loads twice and wastes resources. I am running Win XP Pro SP2.

Something must be cross-wired with these two folders.

Can you give me some advice on how to separate them?

Thanks.

Do you have a hidden file 'desktop.ini' in each of the Startup folders? Once
I had the same problem, after I had deleted this file in one of them. Both
the folders contain identical 'desktop.ini' files, so it should be OK to copy
from the other in case it has been deleted from one.

Very interesting...

The "Programs" and "Startup" folders for that particular user were
both missing DESKTOP.INI files. I copied them from the same place in
All Users and rebooted, but that did not correct the problem.

File contents are:

Programs Folder DESKTOP.INI
[.ShellClassInfo]
[email protected],-21782

Startup Folder DESKTOP.INI
[.ShellClassInfo]
LocalizedResourceName=@%SystemRoot%\system32\shell32.dll,-21787

Any other ideas?

Thanks.

Missing DESKTOP.INI files could be a clue to some other corruption, perhaps a
registry error. You could try to change the location of User "Programs" and
"Startup" folders by using either TweakUI or X-Setup Pro (and later come
back to the original location, if needed). Hopefully, this operation could
rebuild any corrupted settings. This is only an idea, I have never tried such
a thing myself.
