Posting for a friend who can't dialp up his ISP (PeoplePC). When He runs
the PeoplePC dialer software everything works fine till the handshaking. He
gets a dial tone. the RAS answers and the two systems start talking back and
forth. After a few seconds he get an error code (777). If the dialer
attempts to use the other access numbers he gets a different error code
(678).
He has uninstalled and reinstalled the modem. He has even tried
installing a different modem, but he gets the same error codes. His setting
have not changed. He has not installed or removed any hardware or software.
PeoplePC has not changed the access numbers for our city. There are no no !
or X's in the Device Manager listing for his modem. He can querry the modem
and does not get any error messages back. His modem driver is current.
He is running XP Home on an Athlon XP system with 1gb or RAM and he has
two dialup modems. One is a USR 56K software modem and the other is a
Diamond 56K.

You could give peoplepc a ring, or send them a quick email, to see if there
are any current problems with their system, or to see what they may advise.

I'm having the exact problem with my aunts computer. I called the ISP and
everythings fine on their end. I hooked up my computer to her ISP using her
name and password and it hooked up. I've tried everything!!! My brother
gave her his computer and he was on high speed. She's on dial up. I've
tried all the solutions in the help section and NOTHING!!! Very frustating.

Thanks for the info Drew. I've already tried uninstalling, but didn't work.
Am fed up with it...goes to the PC Doctor tomorrow. Thanks again. Tami

Tami,

Last try, sounds dumb, but is there a 1- before the number that is dialing
up?
